One of my pet peeves is the marginalization of the white male in modern America. The extent of the disdain for the white American male finally hit home with me in a community organization to which I belonged. It was a leadership type of organization whose raison d’etre was to provide leadership training among young adults in our community and provide pathways for community growth.

At my own expense, I put together a breakfast for what few influential people I know, and we proceeded to outline some alternatives. I presented our work to the director of my organization, who was a single, black working woman. Rather than the work, what she most interested in was the makeup of the group that I had invited. Her words were “They look mighty male and mighty white”. Not only did this effort die on the vine, but a contingent group of 20 extremely community minded individuals looking to help this community was crushed out of existence because they were “business oriented” rather than politically and socially correct.

On television, while you will rarely see a man hit a woman unless the story line is about abusive male domestic violence, you will often see women kick men, slap men, punch men in the stomach, verbally degrade men, all in the name of comedy. In most sitcoms, men are portrayed as narrow minded buffoons whose sole interest is football, beer and belching.

In domestic relations courts, although many state laws give lip service to joint custody, more often than not the male will end up of at the short end of the visitation schedule. Ingrained biases are hard to break.

In criminal court, if a male rapes a 13 year old girl, he will go to jail for 20 years. If a woman teacher sexually abuses a 13 year old boy, the issue centers around the length of probation. House arrest is considered a major punishment in those types of cases. It is only a matter of time before a male sexual predator upsets his jail sentence by arguing equal protection violations under the constitution. And at Duke University, it is clear that if the complainant is black, female and claims to have been raped by a bunch of white jocks, then it must be true. File charges first to keep the black community happy, and look for the evidence later. Political correctness prevents even considering that a vindictive woman may use the rape shield laws to get back at some man who scorned her. Believe it or not, it DOES happen. I have seen it firsthand. If it is proven that these guys did to her what she claims, they ought to go to jail. If it turns out she is scamming the legal system for a third time, she ought to go to jail for an equal amount of time for destroying their reputations.

In schools, boys are falling behind girls in math and science. More than 50% of those now enrolling in college are female. Why? Some would argue that girls are just smarter than boys. How sexist is that? What has happened is the manner in which the subject matter is taught has been tailored to suit females. Boys, on the other hand, are not allowed to be boys, and are constantly being agitated, forced and coerced into some “metro” male ideal that political correctness has concocted out of extreme liberal thinking. Those doing such studies are showing that in sexually segregated classrooms with methods that are gender appropriate, boys do equally as well as girls in math and science, if not better.

From time to time, I am going to comment on the role of men in our society, and how in some circles, men are viewed as being only marginally necessary, if that. It is interesting stuff.
