Marc Dann and Lessons the Democratic Party Taught Me

The Democratic Party, over the past several years, has done a good job in teaching me about acceptable standards of behavior in two important areas.

1) I have learned that the standard of acceptable sexual behavior by which our public officials should be measured is oral sex performed in the oval office by the President with a 21 year old intern. That is what I had to teach my 12 year old son as we learned about Bill Clinton’s indiscretions every morning on the Today Show as we drank our juice and coffee. If a public official’s behavior is anything less than that, hey…its OK!!!!!

2) I have learned that the acceptable level of racism and hate speech has been defined by Jeremiah Wright, as originally sloughed off by his congregant, Barack Obama. As a garlic nose Italian who apparently is responsible for killing Jesus, and a member of the KKK of America who believes in white supremacy and supports a government who invented aids to kill the black population….shouldn’t I be able to use equivalent language when making references to minorities? Kind of makes the Imus “nappy headed ho’s” comment look like Mary Had A Little Lamb. Maybe someone should build Imus a 10,000 square foot house using church money and give him a $10 million line of credit to boot!!!!!

And now they are teaching me a third lesson right here in Ohio, a new level of hypocrisy. Marc Dann has been at the center of controversy in the media for the past several weeks resulting from some sexual indiscretions of his top aids, as well as an extra-marital affair of his own. These guys apparently like to “party hardy” in their shared apartment in Columbus. Dann ultimately fired his aids, as well he should, and did a public mea culpa about his own peccadillo.

The press has gone nuts. The Democratic Party, from Governor Strickland on down, for whom Dann carried the standard to victory in the last election, is now calling for his resignation, threatening impeachment if he refuses. Word on the street was that the Governor got a phone call from Howard “YEEHAAAH” Dean himself, telling him to get rid of Dann. The Chairman of the Democratic National Committee doesn’t want this hanging around Ohio during the Presidential election.

Can anyone tell me where there is an impeachable offense? So far, the only thing I can see that Dann did wrong was hire some people he shouldn’t have, and had an affair. Sounds like normal politics to me. There were accusations of sexual harassment, but they have yet to be proven. Anyone can accuse anyone of anything. When invited to party at the AG’s party pad, the ladies could have used one of my favorite words: “No”!!!!!

As for the extra-marital affair, so what!!! Do you want me to give you a list? Under the standards of behavior as set and supported by the Democrat Party, this doesn’t even hold a candle. Indeed, Governor Strickland himself voted against impeaching Bill Clinton.

As a resident of the Mahoning Valley, I am certainly embarrassed to have another incident bolster this area’s already bad reputation. As a Republican, I am thrilled that this puts state offices into play during the next election. But my sense of fairness and disbelief at the hypocrisy of the Democratic Party puts me in Dann’s corner. Until malfeasance and misfeasance in office can be demonstrated, Marc Dann should hang tough.
