I'm from the guv'ment. I'm here to help you.

THE DAD' GUM GUV'MENT
from the Tony Award Winning Musical BIG RIVER

Query me this. Do you really think the government is good for you? Do you really believe # 3 of the three big lies:

1) The check is in the mail.
2) I will respect you in the morning.
3) I'm from the government and I am here to help you.

Has the government made your life better?

Forget whether you are right wing or left wing, or Tea Party or Occupy Wall Street. Look at the people that go into politics. There are folks who view it as a "job". Don't call them after 4 or ask them for anything.  Then there are the folks who have an axe to grind. They are dogmatic with a point of view that more likely than not is as whacky as they are. Case in point: the global warming brigade. Then there is the anti-salt brigade. Then there are the right to lifers and the pro choicers. It goes on and on. It's no wonder we are so messed up. Our political system is geared to bring out those who think they have a better idea, be it from the right or the left.

For that reason alone I am drawn to folks who say the less the government the better. I am attracted to Libertarians who just want to be left alone. They aren't working on eradicating poverty (can't be done); saving the planet (from what?), redistributing income (from what protected class to what other protected class?). These are folks who just want to be left alone. They want to open their lemonade stands on the front lawn without being treated like a common criminal. They want to work hard and keep what they make. They want the government out of their bedroom and out of their refrigerator. They want to buy whatever light bulb they want and whatever toilet they want. They want their money to be worth something, and they don't want any debt.

Each of the above are admirable goals. Why, then, do we flirt with those who would do just the opposite? Case in point #2 is New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who apparently has a food fetish. This nut job, who has made more money that God, is going around New York telling everybody what they should and shouldn't eat. Wasn't he elected to be Mayor? What does salt in restaurants have to do with being Mayor of New York? Aren't there streets to be cleaned and garbage to be collected and schools to run? No mayor of any city should have the right to determine what is appropriate for you to eat.  Shouldn't he be taking care of city business?

No, instead in his latest Nanny State edict, he has decreed that local food banks can no longer take direct food contributions because the canned goods "might" contain too much salt. People are starving with no money for food...and this is what he is worried about? THAT IS SICK. That is beyond any reasonable standard by which a government at any level should be involved in things.  This guy needs a psychiatrist...and we all pay the price across the nation as the food madness spreads to other unstable whackadoodles.

Couple that with the incident where the school food police confiscated a prepared lunch consisting of a turkey sandwich and substituting Chicken McNuggets, and you get the idea about what we as a nation are facing. Is this how the government is supposed to help you?

Gas reached $4.00/gallon where I live today. Whether you want to admit it or not, this is happening because of bad government policy. Obama and his cohorts, and Bush and his cohorts before, have implemented bad policy be it on the Chinese front, the Arab front, the Terrorist front, and the environemntal front.

Case in point #3, Obama is an anti-carbon nut case with a point of view that he will bring to the grave with him. All of his appointments, all of his executive orders, all of his legislation, all of his tax incentives, are geared to the elimination of carbon fuels. And he appointed a man as Secretary of Energy who overtly stated two years ago that somehow we have to get the price of gasoline to rise to the levels of Europe to promote alternative energy sources....because of the big, bad carbon fuel bogeyman. He meant what he said. And you wonder why gas is so expensive as Obama touts the lie that he is drilling more than ever.  Not where it counts.  And he is stifling anything new.

Is this the America you want to live in? Is this the brand of politician you want to be leading you? If so, you get what vote for. If this is how the government is helping me...that kind of help I can do without. Where do I vote for Chris Christie?  America, wake up before it's too late.
