I Gotta Guy.....

Everybody has to have a guy. Seinfeld did an entire episode based on knowing a “guy” that could get or fix anything. Having a guy makes life livable. It brings it down to a human scale and builds a community of people around you that you can count on when in a jam. My family has several “guys”, and we use them regularly. Here are some of them.

There is Ronald and Robert, our car guys. They help keep my son’s 1993 Cadillac operational at a reasonable price. We see them often, and they tell me time to get rid of that bomb as often as I see them. They are two brothers who started a mechanics business behind their Lube Stop franchise. They have a big ole dog named Avalanche, who sleeps in the middle of everything. If you are lucky, or not depending on your point of view, your car will be getting a brake job while Avalanche is getting a haircut, especially if he has rolled over on this back showing his altogether!!!!!!

There is Tom, our tile guy. Tom’s regular job is being a cop. It is good to have a tile guy who is a cop because you can trust him in your house. We are currently using Tom to tile above our new stove. Oh ya, he rides a red Harley that gives new meaning to the word "hog".

There is Margie, our seamstress guy (well, gal). She can mend and alter anything. She is a typical Italian seamstress of slight build who wears black all of the time, heavy on the makeup and lots of jewelry. When she was younger, she had a more ambitious operation and was “tailor to the stars”. Anyone who was anyone got clothes from Margie. She is real sweetheart with a heart of gold. She made my wife’s 20 year old Bolero jacket wearable for the big dance with a Spanish theme we attended a few weeks ago.

There is Bob, our plumbing guy. Bob works out of his house, and is a great plumber so long as you get him there in the morning or the early afternoon. After that, well, let’s just say he likes to relax with a beverage(s). Always reasonable in his prices, he has gotten us out trouble for years, including fixing our celery jammed drain on Thanksgiving Day with a house full of people a few years ago. Lesson learned: never put celery into a garbage disposal.

There is Tommy the Crook, our bogus designer label guy. He can get you anything you want from designer suits to designer watches and bags. Just don’t look at the label to closely. He comes around to my buddy’s office twice each year. It is always an event. We serve refreshments.

There is Geri, my entertainment gal. Need a combo for a dance or event? Geri will come and fill the bill with her trio. She is a kick as a person. Not the most organized female God ever made, but somehow she gets the job done, and we love her to death. She shouldn’t be confused with Geri, our organist gal, who has gorgeous solo voice and a talent for the organ, available for weddings and funerals. She is a long time friend and is outstanding.

There is Levi, the tree guy. He comes and plants trees for us, and mulches for us, and fills in the holes in our front lawn for us. He is college student who knows how to hustle and just spent two afternoons in the rain mulching around our house. When I told him it was raining, he said that he had to get the job done. Good for him, and he got a great tip.

Finally, there are two special people, who are good and close friends who read this blog. Doug is our computer guy, who can make these contraptions work, and build one for you that will do what you want it to do. He has been a lifesaver on more than one occasion. And Roxie, our media gal, who knows all things media. For a person in my profession, it always good to have someone who knows all of the someones one needs to know for information gathering and dissemination.

Couple these folks with Bill, our Elvis impersonator butcher; Dennis and Jimmy, our “actor” barber and cycle riding hairdresser; Scott, the humming dentist; and Ted, our “squawking birds in the office” laid back medical doctor guy, we are truly lucky to be part of this community of “guys” who can get things done. Just don't ask me for their phone numbers. These are my guys!!!!! Get your own!!!!!
