Israel, Iran, and the Whole Damn Thing
The question I have is where did Hezbollah get those radar guided missiles? They are expensive, and they had to be transported to southern Lebanon. And the Hezbollah terrorists had to be trained to shoot them, or someone else is shooting them for them. There are two lessons to be learned from the world situation today.
1) Leave the fighting of wars to the military, and the politics in Washington. Patton wanted to march to Moscow. MacArthur wanted to march to Beijing. We had the exclusive use of weaponry at the time to win if we only had the courage to use it. The result of these failures is a Communist China refusing to reign in a nuclear threat from North Korea. Fight to win the war totally and unconditionally, or don't fight the war at all. That threat will not go away, and we are going to have to deal with it eventually.
2) You cannot procrastinate fighting despots or idealogues. The mess in the Middle East today is solely due from our failure to address the problems of Islamist militancy and terrorism. The progeny of excusing, appeasing, and looking the other way through successive Presidents has resulted in Al-Qaeda, 9/11, the threat of a nuclear Iran, and the current crisis with Israel today. Jimmy Carter should have marched our troops into Tehran, liberated the hostages, and taken care of the Ayatollah at the same time.
So where does that leave us today? Let's start with our troops in Iraq. Thank God they are there. Between Afghanistan and Iraq, 200,000 American troops are surrounding Iran and its goofy President. When he says he wants to wipe Israel off the map, believe him. I don't believe our government for one minute when it says it doesn't know whether Abmanwhodiwhatee was involved in the hostage taking during Carter's administration. Those who were there state unequivocally that he was the mastermind. The guy is dangerous. This is why we are in Iraq. Not to liberate it from Saddam Hussein, but to prevent creation of a pan Arab alliance of Iran, Iraq and Syria against Israel.
I believe that Israel has concluded that it is going to have to fight Iran sooner or later, and sooner is better because our troops are there and Iran is not yet nuclear. I expect this war to widen, and widen quickly as Israel builds its case against Syria and Iran for providing weapons, money, troops, and safe havens for the Hezbollah proxies in southern Lebanon. Further, President Bush will not leave office with a nuclear threat in Iran. This is a dangerous situation, but better it be done now than later.
