AlGore Rides Again!!!!!
Let me understand this. AlGore goes into business with Joel Hyatt (of Hyatt Legal Services fame) and starts a liberal television network, never mind Hyatt is a stellar conservative, with AlGore owning 20%. Current TV was carried on most large cable networks reaching 60 million households in the United States although nobody watched it being underwhelmed by its progressive message. That tends to be a problem when trying to make money. One of Current’s intended targets was the liberal audience at CNN, which nobody watches either. But I digress.
Over the past several months AlGore had been quietly lobbying the cable companies to continue their relationship with Current TV because something was going to happen. Bingo!! It was announced today that AlGore and his associates sold Current to Al Jazeera, the Qatar state owned Arab network which served as the mouthpiece for Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda after 9/11. To this day it continues on a semi-regular basis anti-American rants and acts as an outlet for terrorists. But it is an “award” winning operation. Go figure.
I have several problems with this. The New York Times today reported that AlGore tried to “rahm” the deal through before the increase in tax rates on January 1. There are conflicting reports whether or not he succeeded, but he did give a television interview around election time wagging his finger at Americans who don’t pay their fair share. His fair share must be at 2012 rates.
Then there is sale price: $500 million. AlGore gets $100 million. Guess he must be one of the 1%’ers like John Edwards who thinks the rules are for you, not for them. Of course, AlGore has admonished us about our evil carbon fuel ways ginning up the phony debate on carbon fuels and carbon credits, from which he also made a bundle selling air as he pandered global warming...no...climate change...no....global warming. Never mind that the money he is pocketing from the sale of Current comes from a country with one industry only…OIL!!!!! Let he who is not guilty cast the first stone.
Then there was Glen Beck’s attempt to buy Current last year. AlGore turned him down, saying that the ideological integrity and heritage of the network had to be honored. AlGore went on to say that he would only consider selling the network to someone who was more in tune with his political views…someone who reflected his values. Al Jazeera? Really? Folks, you can’t make this stuff up. But then again, maybe Al Jazeera does reflect the values of the man who was only 550 some votes away from being President of the United States. But then again, Tipper dumped him. My My My!!!!
Of course the joke is on Al Jazeera. After this shining example of journalistic excellence gave AlGore his check, Time Warner announced it would no longer carry Current or its successor on its cable lineup. In case you didn’t know, Time Warner is the parent company of CNN…you know…the Ted Turner/Jane Fondle progeny. TW says it needs the band width space. It also don’t need another truly progressive competitor, especially one that might force CNN to practice its political line about Muslim extremist tolerance. God forbid they should practice what they preach…just like AlGore and John Edwards. Of course, maybe a couple hundred more mil payable to Time Warner might persuade them to look beyond the veil, so to speak.
Yes, folks, they walk among us. That's why I'm a Republican.
